The aim of many people is to live health and especially long life. But, in modern times with various civilization diseases caused by work and stress, it can be harder. So, what can we do?
We can hear it from everywhere. From TV, newspaper, internet, radio. If you want to live longer and healthier, you should start with some exercise. There are many positive results, which are manifesting on our bodies. Even exercise reduces risk of many diseases associated with aging such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. Thanks to exercise we are also happier because physical activity stimulates brain, which excludes endorphins - hormones of happiness.
However, exercise can help us live longer, healthier and better also when we are older. Usually are older people lossing some muscle mass what is resulting in problems with walking and overall moving. But, as was shown by one study published in the journal The Physician and Sportsmedicine in 2011 athletes have also in older age nearly the same level of muscle mass than their much younger counterparts. Of course there was some loss of muscle mass and power, but we can say that people who are actively involved in sport also in older age, don´t have so much health problems.
... and healthy eating ...
Different experts usually say, that we should eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Similarly, if we want to lose weight, maintain ideal weight, live healthy and live long. Fruits and vegetables are beneficial to our health and reduce health problems. They contain antioxidants, potassium, fiber, minerals, vitamins and act as prevention of cancer. According to the various researchers regular consumers of fruits and vegetables fell ill with cancer much less frequently than other people. Even treatment with vitamin C has recently been shown to be the weapon against cancer. As stated by Mgr. Janka Osuská "Clinical studies and practice confirm positive results of using the vitamin C infusion therapy for example during the treatment of cancer of breast, ovarian, uterine, prostate, pancreas, lung and so on."
... but, don´t eat too much
Each of us was at least once terrible hungry. We are not eating whole day, because we do not have time on it and then, at home we are able to eat totally everything. However, also in this situations we should not eat too much. When we eat to satiety, we can have indigestion. But, there is also one more reason why we should limit our meals. Longer life.
In 1989 at the Wisconsin National Primate Research in Madison began research with 76 Rhesus macaques, which were divided into the two groups. One group could eat as much as they wanted while the other group received only a certain amount of food. Of course the second group was receiving an adequate amount of vitamins and minerals. The average life of these animals is in captivity about 26 years, while individuals, who received around 30% less food lived averaged 30 years. But, as stated Rozalyn Anderson, an assistant professor involved in the study “it´s a research tool, not a lifestyle recommendation.“
So, nobody is overall telling you that you should eat only veg and fruit and eat about 30% less. Each person is unique and so are your needs. In addition to fruits and vegetables we also need meat, legumes, nuts, etc. Similarly, depending on the lifestyle changes also the amount of food that we daily consume.
Many of us do not have during the average working day time to rest and when they come home they only have much more obligations and responsibilities. Cleaning, kids, finishing projects, learning, preparing for the next day, etc. These and many other things we need to make every day. However, we can not forget to have some rest. A healthy life is not only about exercise and good nutrition. According to the some studies, those people who can properly relax, live longer.
But, important is also sleep. Sleeping is giving to our bodies time to heal and regenerate. If you do not carry out successul sleep cycles over few days, you can have seriously problems with your physical and mental health. Although it is usually stated that the ideal sleep time should be 7 - hours, again, it is individually. Some people can need less or more. Also it is different even among men and women. Insomnia can harm women more than men. Study from 2007 showed that women who slept five hours or less are twice a likely prone to high blood pressure than other women.
And - think positive
Nowadays are many people talking about that to a happy life is needed also happy mind and that just our thought and moods are determining our days and whole life. Even many researchers argue that optimists live longer. Laughter, meeting with other people, hugs and everything else is helping not only our mental but also physical health. As in 2002 reported BBC „a team of American psychologists found that people who were positive about ageing lived an average of 7,5 years longer than those who regretted the passing years.“ Also, as stated Ph. D. David R. Hamilton, „a 30-year study of 447 people at the Mayo Clinic found that optimists had around a 50 percent lower risk of early death than pessimists. The study´s conclusion? ´[M]ind and body are linked and attitude has an impact on the final outcome -- death.´“
