What happens when you read people the Bible and tell them it's the Quran? is the Quran really more violent than the Christian Bible in the west? Before answering that question, you might wonder how so many different news sources could all completely follow the same path and conclusions regarding different events worldwide.
The explanation is surprisingly simple: There aren't numerous mass media news sources at all; there are just few organizations. Few giant corporations control 90 percent of all mass media in the world. And direct links connect all these media conglomerates to the political establishment and the economic and political power-elites. Their control spans most of the newspapers, magazines, books, radio and TV stations, movie studios, and much of the web news content of the world. These conglomerates are in large measure responsible for inculcating the social, political, economic, and moral values of both adults and children.
You would be surprised of how little real data you know about the world regarding the truth behind the published news and headlines. Now, an incredibly revealing social experiment in Holland has judged people's responses to Christian Bible passages when they're presented as being part of the Quran.
In an effort to highlight the extent to which we generalize our perceptions of Islam presented by the media, whilst being ignorant to the extremities of Christianity, the duo behind viral Youtube channel Dit Is Normaal hid Old Testament passages in a book labelled "Holy Quran".
Gory passages within the Bible
If you're not familiar with the Bible, there are some rather gory passages within its pages.
If you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands, and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, then I will do this to you: I will bring on you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and sap your strength...
I will send wild animals against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle and make you so few in number that your roads will be deserted...
If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me, then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over. You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.
So what happens when you take certain snippets from the holy text, read them aloud and tell people the words are from the Koran?
That's what Dutch YouTube duo, Dit Is Normaal, wanted to know.
So they wrapped up a copy of the Bible in a Koran cover, read out a bunch of the most shocking passages, asked people what they thought and what happened?
Exactly what you'd expect, unfortunately.
Just some of the responses included this:
If you've been raised with this book and these kinds of thoughts it's going to influence the way you think
The world is changing and I think they should have to adapt to it.
How could anyone believe in this?! That’s unbelievable to me
Please note, if you think you're not prejudiced...
... you probably are.
